random drabbles from a blogger's soul: VIII

iiiimmm on a roll this week! enjoy friends!
-------------

Sweat dripped from my brow as I hastily wiped every rolling bead of liquid from making contact with the floor.

I was nervous.  Not an ohmygoshididn’tdomyhomeworkandit’sduetoday! kind of nervous, no, this was more of an ohmygoshmywholeteamisdependingonme! kind of nervous.  The anxiety was pulsing through my viens, and I pounded the white ball on the wooden court a couple of times.  Looking at the scoreboard, the numbers 24 flashed across.  This was the game point- the one that got your reputation either way high or super-dee-duper low.  Breathing in deep whiff of oxygen, I raised the ball up an arms length out, placing the spherical object directly parallel to my forehead.  With the cue from the ref and the aftershock of the whistle still blaring loudly in my eardrums, I tossed the ball, cocked my shoulders, and full on swung.  The ball floated mid-court on the opposing side, and my teammates on the benches gave me a cheer.  I hurried over to setter’s position hoping for a good pass from one of my teammates.  As the ball hurtled over the white tapestry of the net, I yelled  “Right here, right here, to the setter!” at the top of my lungs.  The ball hit contact with my teammate’s forearm at a perfect angle and bounced perfectly to my ready hands.  I did a quick-set to the middle hitter, and almost immediately the ball came in contact with the hitter’s hand and slammed with a deafening thud to the ground- a straight on kill.  The crowd burst into a roar of cheers and victory was forever engraved within each of our souls.  We had done it.
